# Assign a lesson, unit or course
Everything you assign starts from '+ New Assignment' at the top of the teacher portal. An assignment goes to one class: the class selected in the dropdown at the top of the page. You can't assign to several classes at once, and each class gets its own session and join code, even for the same lesson. To give the same lesson to more than one class, make one assignment per class. Ori assignments don't have due dates.

### Assign one lesson
1. Choose the class in the dropdown at the top of the page.
2. Click '+ New Assignment'.
3. On 'Choose a delivery method', pick 'Front of Class', 'Live Participation' or 'Student Paced' ([which to use](https://support.orilearning.com/knowledge/choose-a-delivery-mode?hsLang=en)), then click 'Next'.
4. If you picked 'Student Paced', pick 'Student-Paced Single Lesson' and click 'Next', then check the settings on 'Configure delivery settings' and click 'Next'.
5. On 'Which lesson in which course are you teaching?', check the 'Course:' picker, click one lesson in the outline, tick the parts to include, then click 'Next'.
6. On 'Who's joining?', choose 'The entire class.', 'Only students with the session code or link.' or 'Only the following students:', then click 'Next'.
7. On 'Confirm Assignment', click 'Start'.
'Session Created!' appears.
- Check the 'Course:' picker before you pick a lesson. It opens on the course you came from, and if you start from 'Sessions' it may open on a different course.
- On the lesson step, 'Core Lesson', 'Extension 1' and 'Extension 2' are all ticked to start with. Untick any part you don't want to include.
#### If you're teaching Front of Class
Start a Front of Class session from '+ New Assignment', present the lesson, then enter grades for the students who took part when you complete it.
### Assign several lessons, a unit or a whole course
1. Click '+ New Assignment'.
2. On 'Choose a delivery method', pick 'Student Paced', then click 'Next'.
3. Pick 'Student-Paced Course Assignment', then click 'Next'.
4. On 'Select course to assign', check the 'Course:' picker. Tick the lessons and assessments to include, and click the flag on any item where students should stop for your approval (or use 'Quick Actions'). Click 'Next'.
5. On 'Choose students to assign', every student in the class is ticked. Untick anyone to leave out, then click 'Next'.
6. On 'Confirm Assignment', click 'Start'.
'Quick Actions' lets you 'Include all lessons and assessments', 'Set all checkpoints' or 'Remove all checkpoints' in one click. When the course assignment is made, 'Assignments Created!' appears, with 'Copy Link' and 'Google Classroom' to share it.
In a course assignment, each student sees the first lesson on their Home. The next one appears when they finish, in course order, skipping anything you left out. If you set a checkpoint, the student waits there until you approve it. Course assignments don't appear under 'Sessions'. To see one, open 'Courses', click the course, then open 'Progress'. If the course has a [Skills Inventory Survey](https://support.orilearning.com/knowledge/assign-skills-inventory-and-pre-assessments?hsLang=en), 'Sessions' shows a session for the survey; that's the survey, not the course assignment.
