# Co-teaching a class or giving a substitute access

Only your school or district admin can add a second teacher or a substitute to a class. Teachers can't add each other. Don't know who your admin is? [We'll tell you their name](https://support.orilearning.com/knowledge/who-is-my-admin?hsLang=en).

### What a co-teacher sees

A co-teacher sees the class and its students, and can see the class's grades from completed sessions under the course's 'Progress'. They can start their own sessions for the class with '+ New Assignment'.

If you co-teach a class and don't see a colleague's session under 'Sessions', look for its results in the course's 'Progress' tab.

### What a co-teacher can't see

Lesson sessions belong to the teacher who started them. A co-teacher or substitute on the same class doesn't see another teacher's sessions on their 'Sessions' page and can't open, change, end or delete them; opening another teacher's session link shows **Oops, something unexpected went wrong... please try again.** To teach the same lesson, they start their own session.

Course assignments work differently: they belong to the student, not to the teacher who made them. Every teacher of the student's class sees them in the course's 'Progress' view. If two teachers assign the same course to a student, the student still has one assignment, with the most recent teacher's settings.

### Giving a substitute access

For a substitute, ask your school or district admin to add them to the class as a teacher. The substitute then starts their own session for the lesson; they can't run one you set up. If that isn't possible in time, you can print the lesson for the substitute to teach from.

#### If you're the substitute

You need a class with students in it before you can assign anything. Without one, you can preview lessons but not assign or share them.
