Deactivate, reactivate or delete an account
Deactivate an account when someone shouldn't sign in any more: everything in it is kept, and you can turn it back on. Delete an account only when you want it and all its data gone for good.
For: school (site) admins and district admins · deleting is for district admins only
Deactivate an account
- Open the account in 'Users'. Edit a teacher's or student's account shows how to find it.
- Switch 'Active' off.
- Click 'Save'.
- For a student, choose 'Yes' or 'No' in 'Deactivate Student'.
You'll see 'Changes saved'. The change only takes effect when you click 'Save'.
For a student, the 'Deactivate Student' message reads: 'The student will be deactivated. Would you like to remove any unused licenses that are allocated to this student?'
A deactivated account can't sign in, but everything in it is kept, and you can turn it back on at any time. To find it, switch 'Active Only' off in 'Users'.
Reactivate an account
If someone sees Your account has been deactivated when they sign in, their account is switched off; it isn't a password problem. You can switch it back on.
- In 'Users', switch 'Active Only' off.
- Open the account and switch 'Active' on.
- Click 'Save'. You'll see 'Changes saved'.
- On 'Assigned Classes', choose the class and click '+ Add' if they need one.
If you change 'Assigned Sites' for a deactivated account, Ori asks 'User is currently inactive and will be re-activated. Continue?'. Continuing turns the account back on.
Delete an account (district admins)
Deleting an account can't be undone: the account and all its data are erased. To keep the record, deactivate the account instead.
Only a district admin can delete an account. School (site) admins and teachers can't; ask your district admin, or deactivate the account instead.
- In 'Users', open the account.
- Click 'Delete'.
- In 'Delete User', click 'Yes, Delete'.
You'll see 'User deleted successfully'.
Before you confirm, the 'Delete User' message reads: "User '<name>' will be permanently deleted, including all their data. This action cannot be undone. Are you sure?"
If a teacher's account is deleted, their students keep the assignments that teacher gave them and can still open them.
