Assign the Skills Inventory and pre-assessments
You don't need to assign the Skills Inventory separately. Ori creates it for each student when you assign them work in a course that has one.
For: teachers
The Skills Inventory and the pre-assessment
The Skills Inventory Survey is separate from the course pre-assessment and comes before it. The survey has its own 'Skills Inventory Survey' tab; the pre-assessment shows in 'Progress'.
Why the survey matters to your students: Students can't start the course until they finish the Skills Inventory.
Assign the Skills Inventory or a single assessment to particular students
Use these steps for the Skills Inventory, a unit pre-assessment or any other single lesson or assessment. The Skills Inventory Survey can't be assigned 'Front of Class'. If you pick it there, a note tells you to click 'Back' and choose another delivery mode. Assign it 'Student Paced' instead.
- Click '+ New Assignment'.
- On 'Choose a delivery method', pick 'Student Paced', then click 'Next'.
- Pick 'Student-Paced Single Lesson', then click 'Next'.
- On 'Configure delivery settings', keep the settings and click 'Next'.
- On 'Which lesson in which course are you teaching?', set 'Course:', click 'Pre-Course Skills Inventory Survey' or the assessment in the outline, then click 'Next'.
- On 'Who's joining?', choose 'Only the following students:', tick the students, then click 'Next'.
- On 'Confirm Assignment', click 'Start'.
It appears on each student's Home and on your 'Sessions' page.
Students who already have the Skills Inventory, or have finished it, can't be picked again. That includes students a co-teacher already assigned it to.
If a student shouldn't take the Skills Inventory
For the two ways to skip it, see Students can't start the course until they finish the Skills Inventory.
If you assigned it by mistake
Once a student has opened the Skills Inventory, you can't abort it. If it was assigned by mistake, send us a request.
To see your students' answers, see See or print your class's Skills Inventory answers.
