A student sees 'No valid license' (teachers)
If a student sees You cannot access this session since no valid license is allocated to you, they don't have a license for that course. Re-entering the session code or starting from 'Home' won't fix it; the student needs a license allocated.
For: teachers
Check the course and the code
The 'no valid license' message looks the same whatever the cause: the student has no license for that curriculum, their license was removed, the license has ended, or it hasn't started yet. It also appears when the work was assigned under the wrong course, so check the course you picked when assigning.
A 'session not found' or 'no longer active' message isn't a license problem. If a student sees a license error after entering a code, the code itself was right.
If you get a no-valid-license message and the session has no students in it, edit the session from its '...' menu and add them.
If you see a license error while assigning
If you can't pick a student when assigning and see do not have a valid license allocated and cannot be assigned, that student has no license for the course. The same cause shows No valid licenses found on the student's 'Licenses' tab. Your school or district admin can allocate one.
If you see a red exclamation icon next to a student in an assignment, the student may not have a license. If clicking the icon offers to allocate one, do that. Otherwise, ask your school or district admin.
If you see a license error while assigning, check that the 'Course:' picker shows a course your school has. If the error appears with 'Student-Paced Course Assignment', try 'Student-Paced Single Lesson'.
Give the student a license yourself
If your district lets teachers allocate licenses, you can give a student a license yourself.
Don't see '+ Allocate New License'? Your district controls whether teachers can allocate licenses. Ask your school or district admin, or send us a request. Don't know who your admin is? We'll tell you their name.
- Click 'Students' and click the student.
- Open the 'Licenses' tab.
- Click '+ Allocate New License'.
- Pick the license in 'Select License to Allocate'.
- Click 'Allocate'.
You'll see 'License allocated successfully'.
If your district lets teachers allocate licenses, you can also use 'Allocate License...' in the course's '...' menu on the student's page.
If your district lets teachers allocate licenses, assigning a course to a student without one gives them a license automatically, and the wizard shows 'Available licenses'. That license locks straight away. If your district doesn't allow it, assigning doesn't give a license.
If your district doesn't let teachers allocate licenses
If your district doesn't let teachers allocate licenses, ask your school or district admin to allocate one in the admin portal. Admin steps: Fix 'No valid license' for a student (admins).
