Share a session with students: join codes and session links

Students get into a session in three ways: from their Home, with a join code, or with a session link. You can share a session with students by code, by link (you can paste it into your learning management system) or through Google Classroom.

Students assigned the session find it on their Home

A join code is an optional way into one session. It isn't a sign-in code. Students who've been assigned the session will find it on their Home without a code.

Students open assigned work from 'Continue Learning:' or 'My Assignments' on 'Home'. They don't need a code for work assigned to them. 'Continue Learning:' shows the lesson the student opened most recently, which isn't always the newest assignment. Newer work is under 'My Assignments'. See What students see after signing in.

Before you share a code or link

Classes don't have a code. The code students enter belongs to a session.
A 'Front of Class' session has no join code or link, because students don't open it on their devices. See Front of Class, Live Participation or Student Paced: which to use.

Share a session when you create it

When you click 'Start', 'Session Created!' shows the join code, with 'Copy Code', 'Copy Link', 'Google Classroom' and 'Open Session'. The session appears under 'Sessions' and on your students' Home.

A join code is six characters. You'll find it on 'Session Created!', on the session card's 'Share' row, and at the top right of the session while it runs ('Session Code').

Copy a session's join code or link later

Open 'Sessions'.
Hover over the session's card. A 'Share' row appears with 'Code', 'Link' and 'Google Classroom'.
Click 'Code' or 'Link'. A message confirms it's copied.

If you can't see the 'Share' row, hover over the card. Completed sessions can't be shared: create a new session instead.

Share to Google Classroom or another learning management system

'Google Classroom' posts the session link to Google Classroom. It shares the link only: scores stay in Ori. You can also copy the link into another learning management system.

How students join with a code

Join a lesson with a code:

Sign in and stay on 'Home'.
In the 'Got a code?' box, type the code into 'Enter it here'.
Click 'Join Lesson'.

'Join Lesson' stays greyed out until a code is typed.

If you want to join another teacher's session

Join codes are for students. The teacher portal has no place to enter one, so to teach the lesson, create your own session with '+ New Assignment'.
