A student can't sign in
Check three things in this order: the sign-in page, the sign-in method and the password.
For: teachers helping a student, and students
Make sure the student is on the student sign-in page
Students sign in at app.orilearning.com/student, or from app.orilearning.com with 'Student Sign In'. Type the address rather than using a bookmark. Students never use 'Teacher Sign In / Register'.
If a student tries to sign in through 'Teacher Sign In / Register', Ori shows You are not authorized to sign into this application. Students sign in on the 'Student Portal' page at app.orilearning.com/student.
Teacher and student accounts only work on their own sign-in page. If a teacher signs in on the 'Student Portal' page, Ori shows You are not authorized to sign into this application. If a teacher who's already signed in opens the student page, Ori signs them out and shows You are now logged out.
Sign in the way your district set up
On the 'Student Portal' page, type the 'Username' and 'Password' and click 'Sign In', or click the district's 'Sign In with Google', 'Sign In with Microsoft', 'Sign In with Clever' or 'Sign In with ClassLink' button. Some districts have students open Ori from a tile on their Clever, ClassLink or OneLogin dashboard instead of the Ori sign-in page. Need the username? See Find a student's username.
If you sign in with a 'Sign In with …' button, your password belongs to your Google, Microsoft, Clever or ClassLink account, not to Ori. Resetting an Ori password won't change it. Your district IT team looks after that account.
If Ori asks for a verification code
The first time someone signs in with Google or Microsoft, Ori may email them a verification code to enter. If the code has expired, go back to the sign-in page and sign in again. If your district blocks outside email to student mailboxes, the code won't arrive; ask your district IT team to allow Ori Learning email (orilearning.com).
If the student forgot their password
This applies to 'Username' and 'Password' sign-in. There are three ways to get a student a new password.
- If the student's account has an email address, the student can reset it with 'Forgot password?' on the 'Student Portal' sign-in page.
- If it doesn't, their school or district admin can set a new one in the admin portal. Admin steps: Set or reset a student's password (admins). Don't know who your admin is? We'll tell you their name.
- The Ori team is happy to help with this too. Send us a request and we'll follow up by email.
'Forgot password?' needs the email address on your account, not your username. If you type a username, the box shows Email address is invalid and 'Send' stays greyed out.
Nobody can look up a password: not a teacher, not an admin and not Ori. Passwords aren't shown anywhere in Ori. If a password is lost, a new one is set.
Send a reset email (teachers)
Teachers can't set or see a student's password. If your district lets teachers create student accounts and the student has an email address, you can send the student a password reset email. The student gets a link to choose a new password.
- Open 'Students' and click the student.
- Open the '...' menu and click 'Reset Password'.
- Click 'Okay'. 'Reset password email sent' confirms it.
If the student has no email address, or you don't see 'Reset Password', ask your school or district admin to set a new one.
