Add teachers

Create the teacher's account in the admin portal, then add them to their classes. A teacher account needs an email address. Only student accounts can be created without one.

For: school (site) admins and district admins · Available when: your district adds people in Ori, or allows roster changes in Ori alongside a Clever or ClassLink sync

Add a teacher

  1. In the admin portal, open 'Sites' and click the school. School admins click their school's name in the left menu instead.
  2. Open 'Users' and click '+ New'.
  3. Set 'User Type' to 'Teacher'.
  4. Fill in 'First Name', 'Last Name', 'Email' and 'Username'.
  5. District admins: choose the 'Site'.
  6. Click 'Create'. You'll see 'User created successfully'.
  7. On 'Assigned Classes', click '+ Add' to add the teacher's classes.

'Create' stays greyed out until you've filled in 'User Type', both names, 'Username' and 'Site', plus 'Email' for a teacher.

For more on classes, see Managing classes.

Choosing the site

District admins choose the 'Site' when creating an account. School admins create accounts in their own school; the 'Site' field is filled in for you.

You can choose only one site when you create an account. If the teacher works at more than one school, a district admin opens the account's 'Assigned Sites', ticks the other sites and clicks 'Save Changes'. School admins: see School (site) admins and district admins: what each can do.

What the teacher gets

When you add a teacher, Ori emails them a welcome message with a 'LOG IN' link to set their password. There's no password field when you create a teacher: the teacher sets their own. If the link doesn't work, see Help a teacher reset their password (admins).

Add many teachers at once

To add many teachers at once, use a roster spreadsheet: see Create or update many accounts with a roster spreadsheet.
