Grade open-ended answers (the orange exclamation point)
An orange exclamation point ('Feedback required') means an answer is waiting for you to grade it. Ori calculates the grade without that question, so grading it is up to you.
For: teachers
Every answered question has a 'Grading and Feedback' panel. If it says 'This question is manually graded', you score it yourself. Otherwise Ori has scored it, and you can still change the score or add feedback.
Grade an answer marked with an orange exclamation point
- Click 'Courses', click the course and open 'Progress'.
- Click the cell with the orange exclamation point.
- On the left, click the item marked with the exclamation point.
- Click the question circle marked with the exclamation point.
- Under 'Grading and Feedback', enter a 'Score' and, if you want, 'Additional Feedback'.
- Click 'Submit'.
On an assessment, you have to enter a score before 'Submit' works. On a lesson, you can submit a score, feedback, or both. Scores go from 0 to 100, and feedback can be up to 1,000 characters.
Change a student's grade for an item
- Open the student's progress page for the course. If you're not sure how, see See your class's assessment results (the gradebook).
- Click the pencil below 'Final Grade' (tooltip 'Edit grade'). The 'Edit Grade' box opens.
- In 'Override the current grade with:', enter the new grade.
- Click 'Save'.
Use the pencil. Clicking the grade itself does nothing.
Changing a grade updates the 'Progress' grid, but it doesn't add an entry to 'Activity'.
Enter grades on a session's last page
In Front of Class, students don't answer on their devices, so you enter one grade per student for the whole lesson, for example for work done on paper.
- On the last page, click the pencil next to a student.
- Enter the score and click the check mark.
- Click 'Complete Session'. If only some students are ticked, the button reads 'Complete Session for Selected'.
The score then shows in the student's cell in the course's 'Progress' tab and in the student's 'Activity'.
Enter grades on the last page, then click 'Complete Session' to save them. A grade you change there without completing the session isn't kept. If every student has already finished, the session is complete and there's nothing to edit on the last page: change the grade from the student's progress page instead.
