Teach your first lesson in Ori

Preview is for reading through a lesson yourself. To teach it, assign it to your class and choose a delivery mode.

Before you start

The class dropdown at the top of the teacher portal picks the class you're working with. 'Students', 'Activity', 'Sessions' and any new assignment all follow the class you've picked there. You can only assign to a class that's in that dropdown.

Find the lesson

Click 'Courses' to open 'My Courses'. Courses are grouped by curriculum, with a 'Hide expired courses' switch and a search box. For what's on a course page, see Find your way around the teacher dashboard.

Each lesson is an interactive presentation with questions built in. The slides are the lesson; students work through them in the lesson player.

Choose a delivery mode

Everything you assign starts from '+ New Assignment' at the top of the teacher portal. Every lesson you teach in Ori is assigned in one of three delivery modes: 'Front of Class', 'Live Participation' or 'Student Paced'. You pick the mode on the first step of a new assignment, 'Choose a delivery method'. To decide, see Front of Class, Live Participation or Student Paced: which to use. Check the 'Course:' picker before you pick a lesson. It opens on the course you came from, and if you start from 'Sessions' it may open on a different course.

Teach a lesson 'Front of Class'

1. Assign the lesson in 'Front of Class'.
2. Click 'Open Session' and present with the purple arrows. Click 'Full Screen' to fill the screen.
3. On the last page, choose the students who took part, enter each student's score and complete the session.

Teach a lesson with 'Live Participation'

1. Assign the lesson in 'Live Participation'. You set the Collaboration Boards options on the first step.
2. Share the code or link if you need to, then click 'Open Session'. See Share a session with students: join codes and session links.
3. Move through the lesson with the purple arrows. Your students' screens follow.
4. On the last page, complete the session.

If students will work at their own pace

After you choose 'Student Paced', pick 'Student-Paced Single Lesson' for one lesson or 'Student-Paced Course Assignment' for several lessons or a whole course. The steps are in Assign a lesson, unit or course.
