Why can't I add students or change my class?
If you don't see 'Add' on 'Students', or 'Remove from Class' in a student's '...' menu, your district hasn't turned on teacher rostering, or your class syncs from Clever or ClassLink. Ask your school or district admin to add or remove the student for you.
For: teachers · whether your district lets teachers manage their class rosters, and whether your class syncs from Clever or ClassLink
If your district hasn't turned on teacher rostering
If your district hasn't turned this on for teachers, ask your school or district admin to do it for you, or send us a request. Don't know who your admin is? We'll tell you their name.
A teacher setting works only when it's on for both the district and the school. Your admin's side is in Choose what teachers can manage.
If your school or district admin has changed your permissions and you still don't see 'Add', sign out and sign in again.
If your class syncs from Clever or ClassLink
If your district syncs rosters from Clever or ClassLink, class changes are made there, not in Ori. Ask your district IT team to add, remove or move the student in the class section. Tell them your name and school, the section name, the student's full name and student ID, and what needs to change.
How syncing works: How Clever and ClassLink rostering works.
If you see 'Email address unavailable' when you add a student
Email address unavailable, please contact your account administrator for support. with 'Invite' greyed out means there's no student account for that email, and your district doesn't let teachers create new ones. (It also shows if the email belongs to a teacher or admin account.) Ask your school or district admin to create the student's account. Then add the student by email, or your admin can put them in the class. If your district does let teachers create accounts, the student's email must use one of your district's accepted email domains. Other messages: Add or remove students in your class (teachers).
If a class is missing, or a student moved to your class
If 'Manage classes...' isn't in your class dropdown, your district hasn't turned on class management for teachers. Your school or district admin can create the class for you.
If a student moved to your class, give them work with a new assignment in the right course. If a class is missing from your class dropdown, it needs to be created, or, if your district rosters with Clever, synced by your district IT team.
If you can't edit a student's details or reset their password
On a student's page, you can edit their details and reset their password only if your district lets teachers create student accounts, and only for students who don't come from Clever or ClassLink. 'Remove from Class' appears if your district lets you add or create students, for classes that aren't synced.
